Review:
This Essential collection was inevitable. Now most of the 60's work has been published Marvel are giving us some of their more colourful 70's titles and Nova was one of the best. This volume collects all of the original series. The "MAN" called Nova is actually a teenager!. A wimpish character with typical teenage problems is changed into a superhero with incredible powers. Sounds a lot like Spiderman, but the origin is very much like Green Lantern!. Young Richard Rider is given powers from a dying champion of the Nova corps and that's where the fun begins.
The villians are typical seventies Marvel, the best being Diamondhead (with the head of a diamond !). Along the way there are the obligatory guest stars and some great storytelling. Carmine Infantino's art on the later issues are some of his best work. A great Essential title to have in your collection and a fantastic example of when Marvel comics were fun to read.
